Chiropractic for Sensory Processing Disorder

Sensory Disorders in Children

Our sensory system is designed to process our environment and react accordingly to any stimuli; but children who suffer from sensory disorders are incapable of processing, integrating, coordinating, and adapting to their sensory environment.

Sensory disorders occur when damage is done to the brain, spine or nerves. One of the causes of neurological trauma is called subluxation, and can result in developmental issues, such as sensory disorder.

One of the most common sources of subluxation is trauma experienced at birth. Many children and teens who suffer from sensory disorders are dealing with birth-related injuries in the upper neck and brainstem, such as forceps, vacuum extraction, and C-sections.

With sensory disorders affecting roughly 5% of children and teens, more and more parents are turning to chiropractic care as a treatment option.

Chiropractic Treatment for Your Child’s Sensory Disorder

Studies show that children who received chiropractic treatments saw improvements in their ability to process their environment and stimuli. Which in turn results in:

  • Calmer kids
  • Better sleep
  • More connection
  • Less stress

Through careful manipulation and adjustments, chiropractors can specifically address subluxation and its effects on the brain, spinal cord and nerves.

Whether your child is hyper- or hypo-sensitive to their environment, chiropractic care is a low-risk and non-invasive form of treatment that can help them conquer their sensory disorder. Contact our team at Living Hope Chiropractic to learn more!
